About Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels that twist and turn. They usually develop in the legs and can be seen through the skin. Varicose veins cause swelling, fatigue, leg pain, and discomfort, similar to restless leg syndrome. Some vein problems can lead to complications such as clot formation, bleeding, and skin ulcers.
Causes
Varicose veins affect an estimated 25% of all women and 15% of men. It is an often painful medical condition in which the veins in the legs have become dilated and stretched. This condition – usually caused by pregnancy, aging, or long periods of standing–first appears as spider veins. Over time, the veins can enlarge, the skin thickens, and the legs become swollen and painful. Leg ulcers, infections, and even blood clots may develop.
Treatment
Past vein treatments required complicated surgical procedures, hospital stays, and up to six weeks of recovery time. But, with a state-of-the-art treatment using laser technology, your varicose veins and the associated problems will quickly become a distant memory.
Laser Treatment
Venous Laser Treatment is a safe and effective way to treat symptomatic and unwanted varicose veins. The level of pain is minimal for the majority of patients.
Advantages of Laser Treatment
- Safe
- Improved appearance
- Quick – most patients are treated in under 90 minutes
- Virtually painless during and after treatment
- No hospitalization necessary
- Normal activities can be resumed immediately, with no long recovery period
- Less expensive than traditional forms of varicose vein treatment
- Covered by most health insurance plans
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a proven and effective way to eliminate spider veins and has been around for over 20 years. Using only an FDA approved sclerosing agent that is injected directly into the vein, the affected vein gradually diminishes over a 3 to 6 week period. The number of veins to be treated determines the number of sessions necessary.
